This song, by Oliver Getz of Nordic Scoring and Amber Lief, was composed to start the audiobook. One of my biggest inspirations for the tune and the general feel was the swing jazz parts of the soundtrack for a certain series of post-apocalyptic games. I ended up loving having the in-game radio going while I got into epic fights. Since that style of music was new to me at that time, I began to really associate it with that sort of punchy fun and the adrenaline that I’d be feeling mid-battle. The machinery sounds in the beginning were also super important to me, as I love when you can hear tools and machinery in the background of music to give it a unique feel. I wanted this theme to be something where I could picture Ana and Phil having a big steam-powered brawl set to the music, and Oliver really delivered. Please check out his stuff if you like what you hear!

This song, by Amber Lief, was composed in the book’s early development stages. It was written with both the story of SPBB in mind, but also how I felt growing up in a place where being queer wasn’t really accepted. I couldn’t begin to count just how many times I considered just dropping everything and running, without even really being sure of where I’d end up. With what I’m sure is not really a coincidence, the book I was writing ended up carrying some of those themes. If you take a listen, I do hope you enjoy. But more importantly, if the song or the book speak to you, if you find yourself feeling like you need to run away from your current situation, know that you aren’t alone.
